On The Workbench

Quick shot of the desk today.
There are many things currently on my workbench including repairs, touch ups, and full commissions. Out of all the work I have been most intrigued with repairing chinas as of late. What wonderful challenges some of these pieces pose and I have been salivating to fix up the worst pieces a dear and very close friend sent to me to practice on.

I have been so pleased with the china repair and how it's all been turning out that I will be opening my books for china repair very soon. Until then, be sure to watch the blog and see how this guy transforms.

When Pets Go Bad

Warmblood resin that sustained
damage from a hungry cat.

Sometimes accidents happen. Accidents on original finish pieces and limited edition artist resins hurt. This particular repair came into my studio after the owner's cat got a hold of him and starting chewing on various parts. Since he was a resin it was much easier to fix than an original finish Breyer. None-the-less, the repair took a while and I documented the process cause I thought it might be interesting to view.

Repair on this piece was done using both Amazing Sculpt and Liquitex Marble Paste.

How I've Missed You

Clay...it's been over three years now since I even touched clay. How I've missed it. I started cleaning and organizing my downstairs studio cause it had gotten to the point where it just REALLY needed organizing. In the process my break from cleaning found me wedging up some clay and throwing it on my wheel.

How Ive missed my wheel! Today's diversion was bliss. Bliss!

From Red to Golden

Affinity resin in a reddish bay.
Sometimes the colors on the horses don't come out as requested or expected. In the case of this Affinity resin the owner wanted more of a golden bay and by the time I completed the piece I had a more reddish bay. It was one of those pieces that just painted itself and everything went according to plan, except the color wasn't the correct shade.

So, the next step in the process was to find reference of both the color I had painted and the color that should have been on the model. Each piece of reference was then placed next to each other so I could visually see the shift in color. This bay doesn't need to shift much, but reference is still needed in order to stay on track.


She has many many more layers of the golden color to be placed on her but the difference is already noticeable.

Breyer's Big Easy Bash

I'm honored and very excited to have been asked by Breyer Animal Creations to join them as a painting expert in celebrating their Big Easy Bash Event in Secaucus NJ this weekend. I'll be on hand at the event giving painting demos and teaching. I've brought a full arsenal of paints and supplies and have even brought my fixit bags should someone at the event need a repair.

I couldn't help but document my first patient of the weekend. Poor little guy is all better now and ready for the show ring. Hopefully I'll have more pictures to follow during the course of the weekend. It's sure to be a lot of fun.

Another One

Im not quite done with dapples I suppose. I had to get another out of my system. This time it's an Eberl "Jamil" resin getting a ton of dappling. Thought I'd share.

Winter Blues & Cabin Fever

The winter blues and cabin fever have definitely set in at this point. I can't even remember such a cold snowy winter. It's been ages since we've had such lousy weather and for such a long period of time. Without a doubt, my mind is off wandering in images of spring. These two little foals are the product of that daydreaming.
