Twenty Some Odd Days

It's been twenty some odd days since I updated the blog. Most of this time has been spent on commissions and on turning parts of the new home I've been ignoring into a "house". A place where we can feel warm and cozy and where brand new memories can really and truly take hold. Up until this point I was just unpacking.

This urning to make my home truly warm and inviting came about after our valley got flooded. The flooding made National news. Seeing parts the town slowly getting enveloped in water was strange. Walking to the edge of the water and seeing people's belongings already ruined by flood waters that, in low lying areas already reached the tip of the ceilings on the first floor by the second day of flooding, made me thankful for living on a hill and thankful for all that I have received. It was time to stop procrastinating and complaining about all the work I had to do in the house because thankfully I didn't have to muck out and rebuild my home. I just had to paint it.

Such work though does take time and the time slot it ripped into was blogging time. But commissions come in, commissions go out. Many commission requests this time around have been for the color roan. Bay roan and blue roan have been the most popular colors requested and thankfully I love painting them. Laying hair down one spec at a time is rather meditative. Of course, after a month of roan work I am now craving to paint a plain ol' chestnut/sorrel. So if you have that color in mind for a stablemate sized piece let me know. You've got a spot on the commission books!

Busy With...

Busy as a bee with:

* Ordering new supplies from Ceramic Supply of NJ. (I LOVE the fact that they deliver straight to the studio on Tuesdays).

* Reorganizing my studio to one day accommodate a larger kiln (My fingers are crossed).

* Taking portrait shots of my husband for his business card. (I've decided men are more vain than woman).

* Sanding down a religious statue outside our home. (Somehow I was deemed the official "religious statue" painter. There are two more of these statues waiting in the wings for me).

* Thinking about all the things in the wet box that need to be cleaned (Sleepy bunnies, rat sculpts and wheel thrown boxes).

* Daydreaming about that brand new horse show coming to the Poconos (I really could use a show right about now).

So, it's been a wee bit quiet on the blog this week, but I promise to have photos of a ton of stuff soon. Until then though, here is my newest boy for my own personal collection. His name is "Sojourn" and I just adore this Fraley sculpture. It reminds me of most of the horses I've ridden at the barn.

I am so happy to report that my son LOVED his pony ride! Of course, I think he looked great atop the little pony. He sat so straight and smiled the entire time. He's already asked me if he could go riding again and I am happy to oblige that request! :)

I am also happy to report that both Sucre and Rasam are coming along very well. I have about an hour left on Sucre's production and then she will be up for sale. I have taken a new photo for you all to view. You can see a bit more detail on both.

The Rasam is wooing me to stay here in my china cabinet. I am sorta getting swayed to keep him. I am still undecided about it. I will say I was very happy to be painting horses again. I guess I just need to keep juggling many different art projects in order for me to stay fresh.

Bitten by the Fleabite

Sucre and Rasam

It's a fleabite party here in the studio! I couldn't help myself last night when I was painting the little Sucre. I grabbed the Rasam resin and went to town giving him fleabites too. The blur on the right hand side of the photo is a fingerprint. No, not mine, my son's. He wanted to take some photos at the communion party and had a ball. Next time I'll check for sticky hands before handing over the equitpment. LOL

Off to another party today. This one is a birthday party down at the barn. Perhaps Francesco will be brave and hop up on the pony. It will be his first time if he does.
